For over two decades, creativity has been among the top skills sought within the public and private sectors, civil society, and education. The human application of creative capability positively impacts industries, economies, communities, and societies alike.
Yet, educators lack sufficient language, metrics, and resources to understand how to best cultivate creativity in learners, measure creative capabilities, and connect with peers around the world who share their dedication to creative learning. Research shows that when there is a lack of common language, metrics, and resources, once-revolutionary educational and creative practices stagnate and the creative capabilities within young people wane.
Thus, educators need an assessment for the creative capabilities of learners, a platform to connect, and new language to discuss creativity within the educational sector.

From 2019-2023, the Creativity Codex was incubated by Creative Generation.
During its incubation period, the research and design was conducted utilizing research from 24 programs in 30 countries and developed into an assessment framework, which deployed by creatives and educators embedded within school-, higher education-, and community-based learning experiences to initially build and continuously improve our assessment and related resources.
From 2020-2023, the Creativity Codex (Cx) Assessment was utilized in 30 learning environments inclusive of K-12 schools, out-of-school time programs, higher education, and adult learning which resulted in a sample of 530 Cx results (276 youth, and 254 adults).
In 2023, two iterations of program evaluations were utilized within creativity-based schools to continuously improve their programs through use of the Cx Assessment and digital resources.
The data show that our early models positively improve teaching and learning, effectuate change in individual applied creativity, and have shifted the narrative about creativity in education.
