OUR WORK

As a values-forward organization, the team at Creative Generation believes that how we do our work is just as important as the work itself.

As a collective, we are guided by our values within each and every goal, strategy, and project we pursue. We established the foundations of the organization with a mission, vision, and set of values; upon those we have articulated a set of goals to pursue:

  • Empowering young creatives and their communities, by providing a hub for stories, resources, and opportunities.

  • Producing new and honoring existing forms of knowledge and ways of knowing, while dismantling systemic barriers to sharing and learning.

  • Expanding definitions of and pathways to leadership, through unique learning communities.

  • Activating people and projects, by redistributing resources of money, time, and expertise.

To achieve these, our Collective has articulated a theory of change and set of approaches to guide the delivery of our projects.

Theory of Change

Through an evolving process, we have considered myriad factors - such as our our values and commitments, the numerous assets and infrastructures built over time, and external influences which enable our work - to construct our working Theory of Change below:

Approaches to Our Work

Embedded within this theory of change are three primary approaches, which undergird our five signature programs and the myriad projects we pursue.

Technical Approach: As artists, educators, administrators, researchers, storytellers, and activists, we each bring unique skills and perspectives, integrating them to maximize impact. In general, we co-create projects which work at the intersection of four primary technical domains: narrative building, impact evaluation, individual development, and organizational strategy. We recognize the intertwined natures of these, and other technical domains, thus we seek to map the integration to derive the most cogent approach for achieving our goals.

Organizational & Management Approach: In alignment with our values and theory of change, Creative Generation has devised organizational policies and management procedures to enable a broad swath of projects to progress simultaneously. Our approach is operationalized in four common domains: justice + inclusion, intergenerational collaborations, curiosity + learning, and transparency+ trust.

Ethnographic & Heuristic Inquiry Approach: As an organization that strives to build capacity, increase learning, and disseminate knowledge, we have crafted an ethnographic and heuristic approach to inquiry – read more about the model here – to guide our work. This model relies on critical reflection, strategic pauses, and numerous steps, which align to our Theory of Change.

Project Delivery

We employ our Theory of Change and three approaches through a multitude of projects which are managed simultaneously. In a co-creative fashion, our Collective envisions projects alongside a diverse set of Collaborators and follows the below project lifecycle.
