Solution 17 is a model developed by Nigeria’s Creative Youth Community Development Initiative to offer solutions to the world's most pressing challenges through the application creativity and youth development to develop innovative solutions for  the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The model is hinged on youth empowerment through education, creativity, and community development to tackle global challenges and their effects creating solutions towards healthy, liveable, prosperous and sustainable communities and planet.

Beginning in 2020, 17 Creative Youth Development programs will be invited to participate in a national programs across the United States.

Over 18 months, a cohort of youth and their adult counterparts will collaborate to learn, create, convene, and propose solutions to the challenges facing their communities.

As a program, Solution 17 will offer the final solutions to decision makers at the local, state, or federal levels highlighting the voice of young creatives as solution makers in the American policy arena.

What are our goals?

 

1.

Convene a cohort of 17 youth, ages 16-24, and creative youth development programs from different communities across the United States. Together, the group will learn deeply about the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) and apply their creativity to solution-making.

 

2.

In 3 gatherings, the cohort will learn, create, and propose solutions to the relevant UN SDG’s to their own communities. Both together, and back home, the young people and programs will foster creative dialogues with other youth to illuminate in their process.

 

3.

After 18 months of engagement, the cohort will present solutions to the SDG’s leveraged from their own creative communities to decision makers at the local, state, and federal levels of government.
