Creative Generation Selected as 2021 SNAAP Research Affiliate

Creative Generation is pleased to announce that it was selected to join the cohort of the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP) Research Affiliates for 2021.

With access to data from the 2015-2017 SNAAP surveys of arts alumni, Creative Generation will be investigating the career trajectory and path of arts students who leave the field. Rather than viewing this departure as a negative, Creative Generation aspires to flip the narrative on its end. The research will produce a SNAAP DataBrief.

Now more than ever, artists and cultural workers are seeking interdisciplinary, cross-sector work that hinges on their creative capabilities developed through the arts education cultivated in arts schools. Through this relationship with SNAAP, Creative Generation hopes to highlight the stories of artists and cultural workers who are working in other fields and sectors to paint a more robust picture of the futures of creatives.

“At Creative Generation, we strive to support young creatives as well as those who are committed to cultivating their creativity through meaningful data and messaging,” said managing director Jeff M. Poulin. “This unique approach using a well known and respected data set will challenge long-standing and problematic paradigms to better equip both young creatives and their adult allies to prepare for the future of communities.”

Creative Generation was founded in April 2019 as a research initiative and has grown its work throughout the United States and around the world. Through pioneering research in the arts and cultural education field – and the relentless support of arts and cultural educators in their work to cultivate the creative capabilities of young people – the organization regularly leads research projects through its Institute for Creative Social Transformation.

“The purpose of our Research Fellows and Affiliates is to expand existing knowledge about the lives and careers of arts graduates, utilizing the rich SNAAP database,” said SNAAP Consulting Director, Sally Gaskill. “We look forward to the valuable new findings that Creative Generation will share through this project.”

The next SNAAP national survey of arts graduates will take place in Fall 2022.

About SNAAP

SNAAP is an online survey, data management, and institutional improvement system designed to enhance the impact of arts-school education. Since 2008, SNAAP has provided the first national data on how artists develop in this country; helps identify the factors needed to better connect arts training to artistic careers; and allows education institutions, researchers, and arts leaders to look at the systemic factors that helped or hindered the career paths of alumni, whether they work as artists or have pursued other paths.
