Brittany explains the importance of artistic instruction in learning environments, specifically as it relates to mental health. As the Director of Social Emotional Learning at the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin, Brittany provides support in restorative justice and mental health first aid, reconnecting youth to themselves, nature, art, and their communities. The Club provides Visual and Applied Arts programming such as collaging and design, where they can create graphic art.
Brittany loved seeing the connections of in-person events once they were able to safely meet again during the COVID pandemic. She sees the impact of the arts as an opportunity for youth to, "find themselves, and lose themselves at the same time", supporting feelings of healing, freedom and growth.
