Black Lives Matter.
We kneel with the communities which are mourning, stand with the activist who are acting, and we lift up those young Black creatives who are making their voice heard.
Creative Generation, through its people and its projects, unequivocally denounces systemic racism, white supremacy, policy brutality, and violence against members of the Black community – we are committed to actively working to dismantle these systems and disrupt any inaction from those in positions of power.
We work to inspire, amplify, and connect young creatives and those who are dedicated to cultivating their creative capabilities, but we cannot achieve these goals with racist systems and and oppressive violence facing our communities They must be dismantled and disrupted. We commit to lifting up Black communities, amplifying Black voices, and doing the work within ourselves and our organization to address bias and oppression wherever it exists.
The global, creative response to the recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, reaffirms the role of young creatives at the center of community and global issues and their voices as part of the solution. Creatives are using their collective voice to support systemic change about police brutality and racial oppression in the United States. We are here to support these efforts.
Our own research shows that young people have a right to arts and cultural education aimed at cultivating their creative capabilities to catalyze community change. We know that when armed with these creative capabilities – creative thinking, cultural consciousness, connectivity, and concern for community – youth are able to drive social transformation and systems change to address the societal challenges. We are working to amplify their voices.
We also recognize that young people – particularly youth of color – are not and should not be alone in this endeavor: artists, educators, community leaders, and more stand at the ready to support these efforts. We stand beside them.
We will continue this work standing for and with our Black brothers and sisters.
