On Sunday, May 24, 2020, Creative Generation’s Managing Director, Jeff M. Poulin delivered the call to action for International Arts Education Week on behalf of the World Alliance for Arts Education (WAAE). Working alongside the United Nation’s Education, Scientific, Cultural, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), WAAE, brings together the global arts education field to celebration the international week from 25-31 May 2020.
Along with Teresa Torres de Eça, who represents the International Society for Education through Art and the World Alliance for Arts Education’s President’s Council, Poulin delivered this webinar in a series of nine webinars offered as part of the week’s festivities. He offered a call to action for the field in celebrating International Arts Education Week:
“As we celebrate International Arts Education Week for the next 7 days, I wish to impart on you a message – one of hope and togetherness. During the last several months, the world has faced an unprecedented challenge with virtually all schools closed, cultural spaces moved online, and communities operating at a distance.
“We, the World Alliance for Arts Education are here to say that we stand together during International Arts Education Week as one global arts education community.
“We hope that through the activities that we have crafted – on social media, through collective learning, and by sharing your work and viewing that of others – that you feel connected to this global arts education community.
“We wish for you to utilize this week as a place to connect with each other, share your practices, and learn together among peers. We are here to support you and your work – and hope that the ingenuity, resilience, and creativity of the arts education field will impact the cultural and education sectors – as well as our own communities and nations – to move through this crisis towards a healthy and prosperous future.”
