Cape Verdean Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Abraão Vicente, recently visited Leominster High School in Massachusetts, USA.
During his time at the school, Vicente spoke to students about the importance of arts education, traveling, and participating in politics. A practicing painter and photographer himself, Vicente encouraged students to take initiative in learning about cultures, both inside and outside of the United States.
“Just science and technology will not be enough to make good citizens,” Vicente said.
He implored students to go out and see the world and to learn about other cultures, not just because it’s personally rewarding to expose oneself to other ways of living, but because it’s important for students, as Americans, to have a grasp on what is going on outside of their home.
