While this may not be the only way to consider what mentorship typically looks like, I feel safe to assume that we typically think of mentors as people who are above us. Mentorship is often based on a one-way stream of experience, or in other words knowledge that is not openly available, from the mentor to the mentee.

Since our last blog in March, the practical element of the Pretzel process has been on pause. As each country went into lockdown it was not possible for rehearsals and reflections to continue. Even though this Pretzel Pause caused frustration, the proof of concept had been established. Our Pretzel pupils were fully engaged within the process, enjoyed sharing their work but were intrigued by the interpretation sparked by their performances. The listening and responding skills were fundamental to the value of our process. The opportunity to react and respond to peers from across the world has been an invaluable experience.

From December 13-17, 2019, the World Youth Forum was held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, over 7,000 young people participated in several days of sessions and discussions to elevate ten recommendations for the United Nations and governments around the world; these include one focused on creativity.
