Youth Musicians Respond to Social Distancing with New Song and Music Video

An inter-generational group of musicians and producers in San Diego, California have collaborated to produce a new song and associated music video, titled, “6 Feet,” to support social distancing and shelter-in-place as a response to the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic.

Hours after California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a Shelter-in-Place order, The David’s Harp Foundation — a music and media nonprofit organization serving young people between the ages of 14 and 22 — completed a new hip hop song to encourage young people to follow the mandate. You can read more about this organization and its leader, Brandon Steppe, in this interview we conducted with him recently

“6 Feet” is a musical answer to the COVID-19 outbreak. It articulates the simultaneous feelings of anxiety and necessity that arise from social distancing and sheltering in place. The song and a video featuring its artists are now available on YouTube.

News of the large number of COVID-19 cases among young people confirms “6 Feet” is a valuable contribution to local and national public health efforts. Now that numerous countries and territories are sheltering-in-place, the lyrics are a potent reminder that young people need support to remain resilient as their everyday routines and relationships are disrupted.

The artists who wrote and perform “6 Feet” are Amaris Gillen (Lead vocals/Writer), Jonathan Randle (Rap Vocals/Writer), Mario Gaytan (Background Vocals), Rashaad Graham (Producer/Drum Programming), Adrian Cantero (Producer/Drum Programming), Joseph Mack(Producer/Instrumentation/Writer), Evan Yamada (Acoustic Guitar), Ben Parks (Rhodes Piano), Lee Chambers (Electric Guitar), Brandon Steppe (Mix Engineer).
