The Arts Education Partnership (AEP) seeks teaching artists who work in intersections between arts and literacy to participate in creating a glossary defining literacy in the context of arts education.
AEP will gather arts education stakeholders working in aural, digital, kinesthetic and visual literacy to define those literacies and create a web-based resource to share that information publicly. These gatherings will occur virtually via Zoom in summer 2021. Each artist will participate in one small-group session to contribute to the conversation.
After each session, AEP staff members will provide text-based notes to the artist who attended that session; the artist will then create an artwork representing the ideas from the session they attended. The works will be posted on the AEP website as image, sound or video files alongside the text from each session; all works will be labeled with an attribution crediting the artist. The deadline for creation of each work and delivery to AEP in a web-ready format is August 31, 2021. Each artist will receive a $250 stipend for participating in the session and an additional $3,000 for creating and licensing the work to AEP.
We welcome questions or feedback! Please direct them to Jamie Kasper (she/her) at jkasper@ecs.org.
To indicate your interest, send Jamie an email with the following:
• Your contact information, including the artistic discipline(s) you work in.
• Samples of past work — could be a link to your website, pictures, video, audio, etc. — with any work related to literacy highlighted.
• A short statement about why this opportunity interests you (no more than a 3-5 sentence paragraph, please!). We'll gather submissions through May 14, 2021, and aim to have artists chosen by the end of May.
