Leading by Example: Alysia Lee on "Say Her Name"

Alysia is the Coordinator of Fine Arts for the Maryland State Arts Council, the Founder and Artistic Director of Sister Cities Girlchoir, a faculty member at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, and a board member for Chorus America. In addition to serving in all of those roles, Alysia is a performer, conductor, composer, and public speaker. Her original composition, Say Her Name, premiered in November 2020, performed by the University of Michigan choir. The piece was written as a vehicle to bring the powerful Kwanzaa ceremony to the concert stage with a call to action.

Creating Creators - New Report from the Lego Foundation

LEGO takes a holistic view when it comes to reimagining learning by highlighting the ways in which children’s physical, social, cognitive, creative and emotional skills complement and interact with one another through play. When these skills are being successfully cultivated, it makes an essential truth of the arts and culture field abundantly clear: creativity matters! To drive this point home, the LEGO Foundation is publishing a series of reports that “convene a broad spectrum of viewpoints and opinions focused on creativity in education systems.” Their most recent report is Creating Creators.

#ENOUGH Presents Nationwide Reading of Youth Plays to Confront Gun Violence

The #ENOUGH Nationwide Reading is the culmination of a yearlong theatre activism initiative that started with a call for submissions from teens to write 10-minute plays that confront the issue of gun violence. We received 184 submissions from 23 states and 3 countries and a panel of award-winning playwrights selected winners. Youth playwrights Adelaide, Eislinn, Azya, Debkanya, Olivia, Sarah, and Elizabeth represent the bold, brave voices of the future of American theatre.
